Attendance at our bi-annual quilt show was tremendous! Thank you to all those who worked behind the scenes to put on what could well be our most successful show to date! Winners of the Viewer’s Choice, the challenge, door prize and raffle quilt will be posted soon. For now, enjoy the best of the best – our Viewer’s Choice and CQA Rosette winning quilt, “Welsh Beauty” This stunning whole cloth quilt was hand quilted by Dryden’s very own Nel De Porto! Upon receiving her award at the sold out Saturday night banquet, Nel shared that it took her 2 months of 6-8 hours per day to complete the quilt. Apparently, she plans to stitch a matching quilt this summer ‘at the lake’!

Quilt Show Details

We are celebrating the guild’s 20th anniversary this season! Join us for our 2012 quilt show April 28 & 29 at the Agricultural Building on the Fairgrounds, Scott Street and Hwy 601. (map)

Show hours: Sat Apr 28 from 10-6 and Sun Apr 29 from 10-4. Admission is $5 per person, $3 for children under 10 years of age, babes in arms free.

Saturday Banquet tickets ($25) are available for purchase from Hellen Stafford (937-6793). Our guest speaker is Vikki Favreau of Kenora.

November Sky

It may seem odd to talk about a fall sky this time of year as we eagerly await spring but the greys and blues of a November sky inspired our 2012 quilt show raffle quilt. Guild members participated in the construction of this 86″ x 98″ quilt by contributing blue fabrics and making nine patch blocks. Join us for our annual Valentine Tea and Giant Show & Tell Tuesday, February 28. Doors open at 6:30 at the Dryden Go-Getters Senior Centre. Bring quilts to show and stories to tell. Sweet treats will be provided.

Sewing Saturday Course Change

Phyllis from Crazy Ladies will have to postpone her workshop on the “Fun and Done” Runner until March 24th 2012. In it’s place Mary LaRocque will be sharing the technique to make stars which shall be used as table favours for the Quilt Show Banquet. Of course everyone can bring their own projects to work at. If all attending will donate a bit of their time on January 21, Mary will have all the stars she needs for the table favours. Make sure you have a sewing machine, square ruler, a rotary cutter with you. If you have some buttons around 1/2″ in size we can use them in colours to match the soft blues, aqua, soft greens, lavenders, and soft spring colours. A neutral thread colour will also be required. She has the fabric, freezer paper (already cut) and ribbon required. Hope to see many of you there.
